2000-11-16 CITY OF ENCINITAS ACTION MINUTES OF REGULAR COMMITTEE MEETING TOURISM AND MARKETING COMMITTEE November 16, 2000 Present: Council Members Sheila Cameron and Dennis Holz, City Manager Kerry Miller, Richard Phillips, Lili Hildalgo, Paul Davis, Peder Norby, Cyd Shaw, Sid Shaw, Joe Koch, John Mclsaac, Jim Clark, Kristen Richter, Joe Gaballo, Lynne Love, Bob Bonde, )ulian Duval, Gerald Solomon, Fred Caldwell, Lois Rotsheck, Robert Mance. DIRECTION/ACTION # 1 Meering called to order at 8:18 A.M. by Council Member Sheila Cameron. Ms. Cameron thanked Call to Order everyone for coming. Everyone introduced themselves and the following announcements were Announcements made: ; Cameron announced that this was her last Tourism and Marketing Committee meeting. City Manager Miller announced that the staff inet with the sign manufacturer and they believe they may have a solution to the problem they have with mounting the sign. It is hoped that the sign will be back up before the end of the year. Paul Davis expressed his concern that the Tourism and Marketing Committee will dissolve after Cameron leaves. Jim Clark announced that the Cardiff Chili Cook-off went we1L Gerald Solomon, the new CEO of the Encinitas Chamber, was introduced. Julian Duval, from Quail Gardens announced that tfieir 5ffi annual Garden of Lights begins December 15`h Peder Norby from DEMA announced that this Saturday DEMA, in conjunction with the Encinitas Chamber, will put out the Poinsettia baskets. Also, the Holiday Parade is on December 2nd, and the Poinsettia Festival is on December 10`h. ITEM # 2 Presentation of the City's Redeveloped Website Lili Hildalgo, Webmaster for the City, presented the City's plan for the redevelc~ped website. The website will be redeveloped in three phases. The first phase should be completed in January or February of 2001. Each departxnent will have its own page that will have information about the department and answers to frequently asked questions. City Council Meeting Agendas and Minutes are already on the website. Eventually, the commissions will be added. Also, one will be able to complete and submit forms on-line as well as register for programs on-line. ITEM #3 Gerald Solomon, new CEO of the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce, indicated that the Visitor's Center/Chamber's website will be more interactive whereas the City's website is more informational. Status of the Request for Proposals for the Visitor's The Visitor's Center is working on linking up visitors to local restaurants and hotels. The Chamber Center's Website is working on setting up an e-commerce site for the local businesses. The Request for Proposals for the Visitor's Center's Website has been extended to November 20, 2000.
