The SDC&VB represents the areas from the Boaxder to Oceanside and Julian to the Coast. There are 1600 members. The SDC&VB has individuals specializing in various aspects of tourism in the City: Multi-cultural, sports activities, conventions, hotels/motels, promotions, research, and product development. Mr. Pelzer indicated that their research shows that people are interested in visiting places which will provide personal enrichment and enjoyment such as: museums, parks, arts, theaters, gardens. Mr. Pelzer also indicated that they are putting a lot of focus on the infrastructure ofthe city and products available to the tourists. Infrastxucture includes: transportation, traffic, aiiport issues. The SDC&VB believe they are losing tourism because of our infrastructure problems. Tourists have difficulty getting to their desired destinations. These issues need to be dealt with and improved. Products include item5, locations, and hot spots that entice people to visit the city. In our area, Legoland is a good example. Mr. Pelzer noted that sub-committees can be a great help in achieving tourist interest and additional funding. Sub-comxnittees allow more targeted, focused attention on specific areas of tourism. Examples of sub-committees: golf, the arts, technology. Continued general discussions and questions regarding Encinitas linking up with the SDC&VB's web page as well as each organization in the Tourism and Marketing Committee should all link their web-sites to each other to help promote and market the Encinitas area. Encinitas businesses/organizations should also get together in the spring time to get all their events coordinated and the information given to the SDC&VB through the HoteUMotel Association as that is their link to the SDC&VB's web-site. Lastly, Mr. Pelzer noted that funding is the most important thing when it comes to Tourism and Marketing. The city needs to find ways to obtain funding. # 3 None discussed.
