MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: May 7, 2008
4:30 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Present: Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae, Vice Chairperson Sherif,
Commissioners Prieto, Felzer, Nick Ferreirae, Ogden, Lawson,
Novack and Marow.
Also
Present: Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Coordinator
Dakovich.
Absent: Commissioner Campbell

5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of April 2 2008.
COMMISSIONER OGDEN MOVED, COMMISSIONER MAROW SECONDED
TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE APRIL 2, 2008 MEETING. MOTION
CARRIED 9-0.
6. PRESENTATIONS
A. Community Resource Center – Melissa Cappadona
Chairperson Ferreirae reviewed the staff report and introduced Melissa
Cappadona, Community Resource Center.
Melissa Cappadona thanked the Youth Commission for the opportunity to
present information on teen relationships. She presented a video that provided
examples of behavior that could lead to harassment and/or violence and
distributed information on other teen behaviors. She also noted facts and
figures that are incorporated in the cycle of violence. At the conclusion of her
presentation she asked for questions.
Vice Chairperson Sherif asked if there were volunteer opportunities at the
Community Resource Center.
Melissa Cappadona noted the Center had many volunteer opportunities.
Commissioner Novack asked if legal services were available.
Melissa Cappadona advised that legal services were available at no cost to the
victim.
Commissioner Prieto asked what other services the Community Resource Center
provided.
Melissa Cappadona reviewed the services provided at the Center, including legal
services, counseling, emergency aid and shelter, employment preparation, crisis
intervention, food, etc.
The Youth Commission thanked Melissa Cappadona for her presentation.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. San Diego Sheriff’s Department Presentation Comments.
Chairperson Ferreirae reviewed the staff report and requested Commissioners
provide comments on the April presentation.
Commissioner Novack enjoyed the presentation and may participate in the
program.
8. NEW BUSINESS
None.
9. COMMISSIONER’S CORNER
A. Commissioners
Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae suggested having light refreshments after the
June meeting. The Commission agreed. She also distributed flyers for
upcoming programs including Teen Golf, Teen Movie Night, Teen Trips,
Babysitter Training, and Open Gym.
Commissioner Marow noted the cancellation of the dance to be held at Oakcrest
Middle School.
Commissioner Lawson advised students are Star Testing at Oakcrest Middle
School.
Commissioner Novack provide information on the recent San Dieguito Academy
California State Champion Debate.
Commissioner Felzer advised the San Dieguito Academy Prom will be held May
17, on the Hornblower at San Diego Harbor.
Commissioner Prieto advised La Costa Canyon High School will hold a blood
drive May 21.
Commissioner Nick Ferreirae advised Diegueno Middle School is currently
involved in testing.
Vice Chairperson Sherif gave an update on the La Costa Canyon High School
debate team.
Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae noted San Dieguito Academy involved in AP
testing this week.
Commissioner Marow announced he was forming a local Teen Republican Party
and asked if anyone was interested.
