2008-03-05 CITY OF ENCINITAS YOUTH COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES MEETING DATE: March 5, 2008 4:30 P.M. Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae welcomed the Commission to the Encinitas Community Library (4:35 p.m.) and introduced Susan Del Castillo, Librarian, who conducted the library tour. The tour included various areas of the library, and an explanation of the many services provided by the library including computer usage, inter-net services and broad band access. A question and answer period followed the tour and included an explanation on how to apply for a library card. Chairperson Ferreirae thanked Librarian Del Castillo for the tour and information and directed the Commissioners to return to City Hall, Poinsettia Room for the remainder of the Youth Commission meeting. 1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL Present: Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae, Vice Chairperson Sherif, Campbell, Prieto, Felzer, Nick Ferreirae, Ogden, Lawson and Marow. Also Present: Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Coordinator Dakovich. Absent: Commissioner Novack. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None 4. CHANGES TO THE AGENDA None 5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of February 6, 2008. VICE CHAIRPERSON SHERIF MOVED, COMMISSIONER MAROW SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 6, 2008 MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 7-0. (COMMISSIONERS FELZER AND OGDEN WERE NOT PRESENT FOR THE VOTE). 6. PRESENTATIONS None. 7. OLD BUSINESS None. 8. NEW BUSINESS A. Tour of The Encinitas Community Library. Tour was part of the Youth Commission Special Meeting, which began at the Library and ended at City Hall. 9. COMMISSIONER’S CORNER A. Commissioners Commissioner Campbell noted the upcoming Spring Dance at La Costa Canyon High School on March 22. Commissioner Nick Ferreirae advised Friendship Week started at Diegueno Middle School on March 3. Commissioner Marow noted the upcoming fund raiser “Grooving for Gigabytes” will be held at Oakcrest Middle School, March 7. Commissioner Prieto advised La Costa Canyon High School will hold a “MAV Fest” on March 7, which will include air bands and a talent show. Vice Chairperson Sherif provided information on the State debate qualifying tests. B. Staff Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein suggested that Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae and Vice Chairperson Sherif compose a thank you letter to be sent to Librarian Del Castillo for the informative tour. She also distributed flyers on the Easter Egg Hunt, 5K Run/Walk, Open Gym and noted the upcoming Teen EXPO’s to be held March 19 at San Dieguito Academy and April 16 at La Costa Canyon High School. \10.
