MEETING MINUTES

MEETING DATE: February 6, 2008

1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae called the meeting to order at 4:32 pm.
Present: Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae, Vice Chairperson Sherif, Novack,
Campbell, Prieto, Felzer, Nick Ferreirae, Ogden, Lawson and
Marow.
Also
Present: Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Coordinator
Dakovich.

5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of December 5, 2007.
COMMISSIONER FELZER MOVED, COMMISSIONER PRIETO SECONDED
TO APPROVE THE MINUTES, WITH CORRECTIONS (ADD KELLY LAWSON
TO YOUTH COMMISSIONERS THAT PARTICIPATED IN THE HOLIDAY
PARADE) OF THE DECEMBER 5, 2007 MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 10-0.

8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Tour of Community & Senior Center
Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae reviewed the staff report and introduced Ken
Rundle, Recreation Supervisor, who will conduct the tour of the Center.
Recreation Supervisor Rundle thanked the Commission for the opportunity to
share information on the 39,000 square foot facility. He noted the Center opened
February 2, 2002, and has many users who provide a variety of programs. He
invited the Commission members to join him on a tour of the Center. The tour
began at 4:45 p.m. and returned to the meeting room at 5:10 p.m.
The Commission thanked Recreation Supervisor Rundle for the information and
tour.
9. COMMISSIONER’S CORNER
A. Commissioners
Commissioner Ogden noted the La Costa Canyon High School Winter Formal
was held at the San Diego Aerospace Museum on February 2. She also advised
she had received an invitation to the Encinitas library grand opening.
Commissioners Novack and Campbell also attended the Winter Formal.
Commissioner Marow advised he was the Jell-O eating champion at Oakcrest
Middle School.
Commissioner Prieto noted the upcoming La Costa Canyon High School
Valentine Date Game Show, February 12.
Commissioner Felzer noted the San Dieguito Academy Winter Formal to be held
at San Diego Aerospace Museum Friday, February 8.
Vice Chairperson Sherif advised La Costa Canyon High School basketball
season has started.
Chairperson Ferreirae noted she had attended the recent Commissioner/City
Council breakfast. She also suggested several presentations for the upcoming
meetings, such as Downtown Encinitas Merchants Assn. (DEMA), San Dieguito
Water District, Encinitas Library tour, Community Resource Center and
requested that staff research availability. She announced the March Youth
Commission meeting will be held in the Poinsettia Room. She distributed
promotional material to the Commission, which included an Event Calendar,
Disneyland Trip flyer, Bicycle Tour flyer, Open Gym flyer, Surf Camp flyer, and
Spring Recreation Guide.
B. Staff
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein suggested Commission members promote the
upcoming Teen Trip to Disneyland.
