MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: December 5, 2007
4:30 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae called the meeting to order at 4:46 pm.
Present: Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae, Vice Chairperson Sherif, Novack,
Campbell, Prieto, Felzer, Nick Ferreirae, and Marow.
Absent: Commissioner Ogden and Lawson.
Also
Present: Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Coordinator
Dakovich.

5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of November 7, 2007.
COMMISSIONER FELZER MOVED, VICE CHAIRPERSON SHERIF
SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 7, 2007
MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 8-0.
6. PRESENTATIONS
A. City of Encinitas Fire Department Presentation - Tom Gallup,
Management Analyst.
Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae reviewed the staff report and introduced Fire
Chief Mark Muir and Management Analyst Tom Gallup who presented
information on the recent fires in the area.
Fire Chief Mark Muir thanked the Commission for the opportunity to present
information on the recent fires and noted that he had
a power point briefing on the Witch Creek Fire, 2007. He distributed information
on the fire and then reviewed fire factors, fire activities, and 3 point wildfire safety
strategy. Management Analyst Tom Gallup reviewed the City EOC activities and
noted that the Community and Senior Center, staffed by the City Parks &
Recreation Department, was used as a shelter for evacuees. He also reviewed
the reverse 911 system used to alert citizens to evacuate. Bob Scott, City Fire
Prevention Services, reviewed his responsibilities that included inspection and
identification of fire hazard conditions.
Chairperson Ferreirae and the Commission thanked the Fire Department for their
very informative presentation.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Review November City Hall Tour.
Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae reviewed the staff report and requested
comments from Commission members.
Commissioners noted the tour was interesting and very informative.
B. Review Holiday Parade Participation.
Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae reviewed the staff report and requested any
comments from Commission members.
Commission members Michelle and Nick Ferreirae, Anthony Prieto, and Derek
Marow participated in the Holiday Parade and enjoyed accompanying Santa and
Mrs. Claus through the parade route.
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Review January Meeting Schedule.
Chairperson Michelle Ferreirae reviewed the staff report and requested
Commission members discuss the meeting schedule to determine whether to go
dark on January 2 or meet on an alternate date in January.
After a brief discussion a motion was made.
COMMISSIONER MAROW MOVED, COMMISSIONER NOVACK SECONDED
TO GO DARK IN JANUARY. MOTION WAS CARRIED 8-0.
9. COMMISSIONER'S CORNER
A. Commissioners
Commissioner Nick Ferreirae noted the Toy Drive currently in progress at
Diegueno Middle School.
Commissioner Campbell noted. the upcoming La Costa Canyon High School
Winter Formal to be held February 2.
Commissioner Novack advised San Dieguito Academy Battle of the Bands had
awarded 1St , 2"d and 3rd place.
Commissioner Felzer announced the winners: Poly-tones/1 St place, Call
Thousands/2"d place and Love Gun/3rd place.
Commissioner Prieto noted the upcoming Comedy Sports at La Costa Canyon
High School and also the Battle of the Bands, beginning January 9.
Vice Chairperson Sherif advised that last weekend the La Costa Canyon High
School's Debate Team made the finals.
B. Staff
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein distributed a revised Youth Commission
telephone list. She wished everyone a safe, happy holiday season.
10. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 5:38 p.m.
