YOUTH COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: November 7, 2007
4:30 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL Commissioner Prieto called the meeting to order at 4:35 pm.
Present: Commissioners Michelle Ferreirae, Novack, Campbell, Ogden,
Prieto, Felzer, Nick Ferreirae, Lawson, Marow and Sherif.

4. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of October 3, 2007.
COMMISSIONER FELZER MOVED, COMMISSIONER FERREIRAE
SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 3, 2007
MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 10-0.
5. OLD BUSINESS
A. Review October Park and Beach Tour.
Commissioners noted the tour was interesting and very informative.
6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Tour of City Hall - Mike Stauffer, Senior Management Analyst.
Commissioner Prieto reviewed the staff report and introduced Senior
Management Analyst Mike Stauffer, who conducted the tour.
Senior Management Analyst Stauffer gave a brief overview of his position with
the City and invited the Commission to accompany him on a tour of City
Departments. The tour began at 4:45 p.m. and ended at 5:10 p.m.
B. Nomination and Election of Youth Commission Chairperson and Vice
Chairperson.
Commissioner Prieto reviewed the staff report and opened the meeting to
nominations for Youth Commission Chairperson.
Commissioner Prieto nominated himself; Commissioner Novack nominated
himself; Commissioner Marow nominated himself; and Commissioner Ogden
nominated Commissioner Michelle Ferreirae. Via secret ballot Commissioner
Michelle Ferreirae was elected Chairperson.
Commissioner Prieto opened the meeting to nominations for Youth Commission
Vice Chairperson.
Commissioner Novack nominated himself; Commissioner Prieto nominated
himself; Commissioner Marow nominated himself; Commissioner Felzer
nominated himself; Commissioner Ogden nominated Commissioner Sherif. Via
secret ballot Commissioner Sherif was elected Vice Chairperson.
7. COMMISSIONER'S CORNER
A. Commissioners
Commissioner Prieto noted La Costa Canyon High School is participating in
Survivor Week activities this week.
Commissioner Ogden advised La Costa Canyon High School will play Torrey
Pines High School this Friday night at 7:30 and all attendees are encouraged to
wear white.
Commissioner Novack advised San Dieguito Academy won 1St place in the
recent County-wide debates.
Commissioner Sherif noted La Costa Canyon High School came in 2nd place in
the debates.
Commissioner Nick Ferreirae advised Diegueno Middle School is holding a
canned food drive.
Commissioner Lawson noted Oakcrest Middle School is also holding a canned
food drive. She also advised that Oakcrest had held "Spirit Day" recently to
encourage school support.
Commissioner Felzer advised San Dieguito Academy held Battle of the Bands
events last week and will continue this week.
Commissioner Prieto requested Commissioners volunteer for the upcoming
Holiday Parade, December 1. He also noted that an agenda item for the next
meeting would be a discussion on information speakers for upcoming meetings,
and asked that Commissioners present suggestions at that meeting.
B. Staff
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein advised that traditionally, the Commission
members surround the Santa Claus float and walk the Parade route, wearing
their Commission sweatshirts.

The meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m.
