YOUTH COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: June 6, 2007
4:30 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Ferreirae called the meeting to order at 4:31 pm.
Present: Chairperson Ferreirae, Commissioners Vaccaro, Young, Campbell,
Alcorn, Felzer, Ogden, Prieto and Stone (4:45 p.m.).

Present: Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Coordinator
Dakovich
Absent: Vice Chairperson Novack and Commissioner Lee.
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Lucy Rojas Prieto, 921 Calle Santa Cruz, Encinitas (representing American
Cancer Society's Relay for Life) - noted the upcoming team event to be held
August 18 and 19, 2007 at Oak Crest Middle School to support the fight on
cancer and distributed a promotional flyer. She encouraged Commission
members to share the information with family and friends, put together a relay
team and attend the rally meeting on June 13 at 6:30 p.m., San Diego National
Bank to learn more about the Relay.

5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of May 2, 2007.
COMMISSIONER FELZER MOVED, COMMISSIONER OGDEN SECONDED
TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE MAY 2, 2007 MEETING. MOTION
CARRIED 8-0.
6. PRESENTATIONS
A. Recognition of Outgoing Commission Members.
Chairperson Ferreirae reviewed the staff report, thanked Commissioners Alcorn,
Vaccaro and Stone for a job well done and presented each of them with a
certificate.

7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Status Report on Current Youth/Teen Activities (Teen Trips, Open Gym,
Open MIC, etc.).
Chairperson Ferreirae noted Open Gym - June 16, July 21, August 4 and 18;
Teen Trips - Six Flags Magic Mountain on July 11 and Universal Studios on
August 1; Open Mic Night August 17; and the Teen Summer Dance Party June
22 at the Community Center.
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Review of Summer Meeting Schedule.
Chairperson Ferreirae reviewed the staff report regarding the summer meeting
schedule and the possibility of going dark in July and August.
IN CONSENSUS (9-0), THE COMMISSION AGREED TO HOLD NO
MEETINGS IN JULY AND AUGUST AND RESUME MEETING SCHEDULE IN
SEPTEMBER, WITH DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED.
9. COMMISSIONERS CORNER
A. COMMISSIONERS:
Commissioner Alcorn noted La Costa Canyon High School graduation will be
held June 15.
Commissioner Young advised Diegueno Middle School promotion trip to
Disneyland will be held June 13.
Commissioner Stone noted the Oakcrest Middle School promotion trip to
Disneyland will be the same date June 13.
Commissioner Vaccaro advised San Dieguito Academy graduation will be held
June 15.
Commissioner Prieto advised the La Costa Canyon High School prom held June
2 at the San Diego Convention Center was very successful.
B. STAFF
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein thanked the Commissioners for their
participation on the Commission and wished them a happy summer.
