MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: April 4, 2007
4:30 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Ferreirae called the meeting to order at 4:31 pm.
Present: Chairperson Ferreirae, Vice Chairperson Novack, Commissioners
Prieto, Vaccaro, Stone, Felzer, and Ogden.
Also
Present: Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Coordinator
Dakovich
Absent: Commissioners Young, Alcorn, Campbell and Lee.
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Michele Little, representing Encinitas Environment Day, encouraged the
Commission's participation in the event June 3, 2007, noting there were many
volunteer opportunities.
4. CHANGES TO THE AGENDA
None
5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of March 7, 2007.
VICE CHAIRPERSON NOVACK MOVED, COMMISSIONER OGDEN
SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE MARCH 7, 2007
MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 7-0.
6. PRESENTATIONS
A. Information presentation by Peter Norby, Executive Director, Downtown
Encinitas Mainstreet Association.
Chairperson Ferreirae introduced and welcomed Peter Norby, Executive
Director, Downtown Encinitas Mainstreet Association (DEMA).
Peter Norby gave a brief personal history, noting he was a San Diego native,
attended San Diego schools and has been Executive Director of DEMA for ten
years. He also reviewed the early history of the Encinitas downtown area as well
as upcoming events, including the Encinitas Street Fair, April 28'h and 29'h on
Highway 101.
Chairperson Ferreirae and the Commission thanked Peter Norby for his
presentation.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Status Report on Current YouthlTeen Activities (Teen Trips, Open Gym,
Open MIC, etc.).
Chairperson Ferreirae distributed flyers for the Easter Egg Hunt Festival, April 7,
Junior Olympics 2007, Open Gym, April 7 and 21 and May 5.
8. NEW BUSINESS
None
9. COMMISSIONERS CORNER
A. COMMISSIONERS:
Vice Chairperson Novack noted the recent Teen EXPO he attended at San
Dieguito Academy. Chairperson Ferreirae, Commissioners Prieto and Felzer
also attended.
Chairperson Ferreirae distributed a flyer advertising the upcoming Encinitas 5K
Run, May 19 and noted the need for volunteers.
B. STAFF
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein advised that Youth Commission recruitment
will begin next month. She also noted the next Youth Commission meeting will
be May 2, 2007.
