YOUTH COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: February 7, 2007 4:30 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Ferreirae called the meeting to order at 4:33 pm. .
Present: Chairperson Ferreirae, Vice Chairperson Novack and
Commissioners Prieto, Felzer, Vaccaro, Alcorn, Young, Stone, and
Campbell.
Also
Present: Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Coordinator
Dakovich
Absent: Commissioners Lee and Ogden.
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Michele Little, 620 Melba Rd., Encinitas shared information on the upcoming "
Encinitas Environmental Day in June 2007, to be held at Cottonwood Creek Park
and invited Commission members to attend and volunteer at the event.
Vice Chairperson Novack asked what volunteer opportunities were available at
the event.
Michele Little requested an opportunity to return to the Commission, with
additional information as plans became finalized.
IN CONSENSUS, THE COMMISSION AGREED TO AGENDIZE A
DISCUSSION ON VOLUNTEER PARTICIPATION AT THE UPCOMING
ENCINITAS ENVIRONMENTAL DAY FOR THEIR NEXT MEETING.

6. PRESENTATIONS
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Status Report on Current Youth/Teen Activities (Teen Trips, Open Gym,
Open MIC, etc.).
Chairperson Ferreirae noted that no Youth Commission members attended the
Mountain High Ski Trip, January 25 and encouraged their participation in the
Disneyland trip, February 16.
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Tour of City Hall - Mike Stauffer, Senior Management Analyst
Chairperson Ferreirae introduced and welcomed Senior Management Analyst
Stauffer to the meeting.
Senior Management Analyst Stauffer gave a brief overview of City Council
functions and invited the Commission to take a tour of Encinitas City Hall. The
tour commenced at 4:40 p.m. and ended at 5:02 p.m.
Chairperson Ferreirae thanked Senior Management Analyst Stauffer for the
interesting tour.
9. COMMISSIONERS CORNER
A. COMMISSIONERS:
Chairperson Ferreirae advised that Open Mic night is February 16, Open Gym
night is February 17, and the Teen Trip to Disneyland is February 16. She also
noted upcoming Youth Commission meetings to be held March 7, April 4, May 2,
and June 6.
Commissioner Felzer noted the upcoming San Dieguito Academy Winter Formal
to be held in the Hall of Champions, Balboa Park, February 9.
Commissioner Prieto noted the upcoming play "As You Like It" to be held at La
Costa Canyon High School beginning February 7. Commissioner Campbell noted Diegueno Middle School will hold a dance this
month.
Commissioner Alcorn noted the recent La Costa Canyon High School Winter
Formal had record attendance.
Vice Chairperson Novack advised that San Dieguito Academy recently held the
grand opening of their new Library. He also noted that both he and Chairperson

Ferreirae had attended the City Council Goal Setting Meeting in January and
found the information interesting.
. B. STAFF
Recreati0n Supervisor Rubenstein distributed an updated City Profile and Youth
Commission telephone list. She encouraged Commission members to promote
the upcoming Teen EXPO to be held at San Dieguito Academy on March 28 and
at La Costa Canyon High School April 4. She also noted, that traditionally, the
Youth Commission Chairperson and Uice Chairperson MC the upcoming
I nte rgene rational Program to be held at the Community & Senior Center on June
1 and asked if they would be available to participate. The Chairperson and Vice
Chairperson will review their calendars and advise the Recreation Supervisor.

The meeting adjourned at 5:19 p.m.
