YOUTH COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: October 5, 2005
4:30 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Berry-Blum called the meeting to order at 4:34 pm.
Present: Chairperson Berry-Blum, Vice Chairperson Prieto (4:45),
Commissioners Alcorn, Canchola, Felzer, Ferreirae, Micelli, and
Vaccara

Present: Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Coordinator
Dakovich
Absent: Commissioners Lee and Ogden.

5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of September 7, 2005.
COMMISSIONER FELZER MOVED, COMMISSIONER FERREIRAE
SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 7, 2005
MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 7-0.
6. PRESENTATIONS
None.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Status Report on Current Youth/Teen Activities (Teen Trips, Open Gym,
Open MIC, etc.).
Chairperson Berry-Blum reported on the upcoming teen trip to Knott's Scary
Farm October 8, and noted that Open Gym will be held October 15 and Open
Mic will be held October 21 at the Community Center. She encouraged
Commissioners to support and attend these events.
B. Commission Subcommittee Reports.
Transportation Subcommittee - Julie Vaccaro, Chairperson and Jackie
Canchola, Vice Chairperson reported on their September 22 meeting, noting that
goals were discussed and ways to promote available transportation. The
Subcommittee will also prepare a promotional transportation flyer.
Marketing Subcommittee - Natalie Berry-Blum, Chairperson and Anthony
Prieto, Vice Chairperson reported on their September 13 meeting and noted that
goals were determined, as well as a distribution plan for the Teen Directory and
event flyers at the schools and local businesses.
C. Finalize Youth Commission Meeting Schedule.
Chairperson Berry-Blum reviewed the staff report and encouraged suggestions
from the Commission on various topics for presentation at upcoming meetings.

8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Tour of City Hall
Chairperson Berry-Blum reviewed the staff report and introduced Mike Stauffer,
Senior Management Analyst, who will conduct the City Hall tour.
Senior Management Analyst Stauffer reviewed his job responsibilities, and
provided a City information fact sheet. He also announced Red Ribbon Week,
October 23-31 and distributed red ribbons to the Commissioners.
The Commission began their City Hall Tour at 5:00 PM and returned at 5:30 PM.

9. COMMISSIONERS CORNER
A. Commissioners
Chairperson Berry Blum opened the meeting for Commissioner comments on the
recent Commission Appreciation Dinner held at the Community & Senior Center
last month. Those Commission members who attended enjoyed the food and
entertainment.
Commissioner Ferreirae noted the upcoming San Dieguito Academy
Homecoming Dance, October 29, theme -"Nightmare on Santa Fe."
Commissioner Canchola suggested the Commission participate as an entry in
the Christmas parade.
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein noted that an adult project advisor would be
needed to coordinate a parade entry and suggested that those Commission
members who are interested meet with her to discuss further.
Commissioner Alcorn advised La Costa Canyon High School will hold their
Homecoming Dance on October 29 - theme "Night on a Red Carpet."
Commissioner Micelli advised Oakcrest Middle School was holding a Dance,
October 27, with plaid, workout or cowboy dress.
Vice Chairperson Prieto noted the upcoming La Costa Canyon High School
"Battle of the Bands." .
Chairperson Berry-Blum advised San Dieguito Academy had planned a week of
homecoming events beginning October 24.
B. Staff
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein distributed an information sheet on the new
library and flyers for upcoming activities. She asked if activities and events were
being promoted at La Costa Canyon High School, San Dieguito Academy,
Oakcrest Middle School, and was assured that promotions were going well.
She also distributed a current Subcommittee list and sweatshirts to the new
Commissioners.

The meeting adjourned at 5:41 p.m.
