YOUTH COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: September 7, 2005
4:30 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Berry-Blum called the meeting to order at 4:33 pm.
Present: Chairperson Berry-Blum, Vice Chairperson Prieto, Commissioners
Alcorn, Canchola, Felzer, Ferreirae, Lee, Micelli, Ogden, and
Vaccaro.
Also
Present: Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Coordinator

5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of June 1, 2005.
COMMISSIONER FELZER MOVED, COMMISSIONER FERREIRAE
SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE JUNE 1, 2005 MEETING.
MOTION CARRIED 10-0.
6. PRESENTATIONS
None.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Status Report on Current Youth/Teen Activities (Teen Trips, Open Gym,
Open MIC, etc.).
Chairperson Berry-Blum reported on the upcoming teen trip to Knott's Scary
Farm October 8, and noted that Open Gym will be held September 17 and Open
Mic will be held September 16 at the Community Center. She encouraged
Commissioners to support and attend these events.

8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Review of Proposed Meeting Schedule.
Chairperson Berry-Blum reviewed the staff report and encouraged the
Commission to discuss and determine possible tours (Parks, Trails, Community
& Senior Center, etc.) as well as potential speakers to invite (Cal Trans, City
Lifeguards and/or Fire Department, update on new City Library etc.) to provide
information during the presentation portion of the meeting. She also noted that
City Commissions traditionally go dark in December and asked for Commission
input.
In consensus, the Commission agreed to discuss whether to meet in December,
plan dates for a Trail and Park Tour, and schedule a tour of the Community &
Senior Center during their October, 2005 meeting.
B. Review of Ad Hoc Subcommittee Functions and Appoint Members to Ad
Hoc Subcommittees.
Chairperson Berry-Blum reviewed theAd Hoc Subcommittee goals and
objectives and requested that Commission members express their interests.

9. COMMISSIONERS CORNER
A. Commissioners
Chairperson Berry Blum opened the meeting for Commissioner comments.
Vice Chairperson Prieto advised La Costa Canyon High School was holding
"back-to-school" night September 7 with a back to school dance on September 9,
2005.

Commissioner Micelli advised Oakcrest Middle School was holding a Hurricane
Katrina Fund Raiser and magazine drive.
Commissioner Lee advised La Costa Canyon High School was having an
American Heart Assn. Heart Walk on Saturday, September 17.
Commissioner Ogden advised she had distributed flyers for the recent Teen
Dance.
Commissioner Ferreirae noted the upcoming San Dieguito Academy Welcome
Back Dance will be held September 16. She also advised she attended the
Community Meeting on North Coast Interstate 5, in August and distributed
information flyers from the meeting.
Commissioner Vaccaro advised she had also attended the Community Meeting
on Interstate 5.
Commissioner Canchola advised she is working on the San Dieguito Academy
yearbook.
Commissioner Alcorn advised La Costa Canyon High School hockey team will
play San Dieguito Academy on Thursday, September 15. She also advised she
had attended the Community Meeting on Interstate 5.
Chairperson Berry-Blum thanked the Commissioners for the information and
requested new Commission members provide Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein
with shirt size information to receive Youth Commission sweatshirts.
B. Staff
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein noted the upcoming Commission Recognition
Dinner, September 19, 2005, at the Community & Senior Center. She also noted that volunteers were needed for the upcoming Encinitas 5K Race October 15,
and suggested Commission members contact her if they are interested in
participating.
