YOUTH COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: March 2, 2005
4:30 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 4:36 p.m. by Chairperson Briana Meyer.
Present: Chairperson Briana Meyer, Commissioners Michelle Ferreirae,
Jazmin Machado, Soh-Yeon Lee, Anthony Prieto, and David
Felzer.
Also
Present: Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Support
Coordinator Dakovich.
Absent: Vice Chairperson Vasquez, and Commissioners Royer, Bangert,
Groseclose, and Ogden.

None.
4. CHANGES TO THE AGENDA
Chairperson Meyer advised Agenda Item 9 would be heard after Agenda Item 7.
Commission concurred.
5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of February 2, 2005.
COMMISSIONER FELZER MOVED, COMMISSIONER FERREIRAE
SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 2, 2005
MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 6-0.
6. PRESENTATIONS
None.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Status Report on Current YouthlTeen Activities (Teen Trips, Open Gym,
Open MIC, etc.)
Chairperson Meyer noted the sold out Teen Trip to Disneyland, February 18, and
advised that Open Mic, February 18 had 250 attendees. She also distributed
teen event calendars for March through June, 2005.
B. Commission Subcommittee Reports.
Teen Center Subcommittee - No meeting.
Skate Park Subcommittee - No meeting.
Transuortation Subcommittee - No meeting.
Marketinp Subcommittee - No meeting.
C. Report on Youth Summit Planning Meeting.
Chairperson Meyer noted that all Conference registrations should be turned in
today. She also suggested that Commission members planning to attend make
car pool arrangements. She reviewed the Conference itinerary and noted that
Encinitas City Manager Miller would be a guest speaker at the Conference.
9. COMMISSIONERS CORNER
A. Commissioners
Chairperson Meyer reviewed the Agenda Report for the February 23 City Council
meeting - Introduction of Ordinance 2005-02 amending Chapter 2.48.020 of the
Municipal Code to delete two (2) 6th grade representatives from the Commission.
She noted the Commission would continue contact with this grade level on an as
needed basis.
Commissioner Felzer asked if Governor Schwarzenegger wo'uld be speaking at
the San Diego Youth Conference.
Chairperson Meyer advised the Governor was unable to attend the Conference.
Commissioner Prieto noted he had attended the recent Open Mic Night and
advised there were at least 200 people in attendance. He also advised that Twin
Day at La Costa Canyon High School would be held March 11.
Commissioner Ferreirae advised Diegueno Middle School would be holding
Friendship Week, beginning March 7 and Spirit Week would be the week of
March 15.
Commissioner Machado noted upcoming La Costa Canyon High School dance,
March 19, with the theme "Black-Out".
B. Staff
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein advised that letters of interest to participate on
the Youth Commission were being mailed soon and encouraged current
members to re-apply. She distributed information and an application form from
Encinitas Sister City's Hondo, Japan Homestay Program.

This is an opportunity for students to spend July 28 to August 5, 2005 with
Japanese families and learn about their culture, art, music, etc. 'Eligibility for this
trip is determined through a student submitted essay.
She also noted the upcoming Teen EXPO's March 30 at San Dieguito Academy
and April 20 at La Costa Canyon High School, and advised there would be a
Sister City booth at both sites to answer any questions.
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Tour of Community & Senior Center..
Chairperson Meyer reviewed the staff report and introduced Center staff member
Frank Caldararo, who will conduct the tour.
Commission members toured both the Community and Senior Center and
returned to the meeting at 5:35 p.m.
10. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 5:35 p.m.
