CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL Council Member Houlihan called the meeting to order at 11 :00 A.M. Self-introductions were made. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - JANUARY 25~ 2005 MEETING Correction made to page 2 of the January 25,2005 minutes to reflect: ".. .Erin Meister who was helping the Encinitas Historical Society. . ." Minutes of the January 25,2005 meeting were approved as noted. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS AGENDA ITEM 1. FINAL REVIEW OF THE HISTORY WITHOUT WALLS PRESERVATION RESOURCE BROCHURE The History without Walls Preservation Brochure was reviewed by the committee. The following changes would be made to the final draft: Contact information would be added to the Friends of the Encinitas Library; Council Member Houlihan's contact information would be added to the brochure. Additionally, it was reported that Cris Hicks would develop the brochure into a more marketable format - i.e., the brochure would be die cut into the shape of a school bus or other icon. SPRING EVENT PLANNING - EVENT AND MARKETING SUBCOMMITTEE It was reported that a book-signing event with Wendy Haskett, in collaboration with Barnes and Noble, was in the preliminary planning stages. Lloyd O'Connell, with the Encinitas Historical Society, was planning a presentation on historical buildings in Encinitas. Additionally, a series of historic tours throughout Encinitas was being developed. A historical festival was being considered for a future event. The subcommittee agreed that the Y outh/Elder Story Art Project headed by Lois Sunrich would be the first event of the year for the History without Walls Subcommittee. The project was recently awarded a $1,500 grant from the Arts Commission. The targeted date for the event was May 22,2005. Cris Hicks agreed to assist Ms. Sunrich with promotions. Billy Stern and Wendy Haskett would work on organizing a city-wide Composer District event in 2006. An historical art show would be considered by the committee, which could be held in conjunction with the historical festival. The art show could also be digitized and placed on the website. 3. WEB SITE UPDATE - DATABASE SUBCOMMITTEE Blair Gibb reported on the progress that he had made with the development of the website, which was initially done by Billy Stern. Some of the items worked on included the addition of the key historical resource list and links to historical organizations and research sites. After some discussion, it was determined that the website would contain historical element content as well as serve as a portal to other historical information sites. ANNOUNCEMENTS Lloyd O'Connell reported that 18 oral histories had been completed as part of the Highway 101 Association Oral History Project. The oral histories would eventually be accessible on-line. It was noted that Billy Stern would no longer participate on the subcommittee but hoped to rejoin the group at a later time.
