Council Member Maggie Houlihan, Lloyd O'Connell, Blair Gibb, Lois Sunrich, Barbara Grice,
Mary Fran Riggs, Wendy Haskett, Kenneth Hayward, and Committee Secretary Zenns.
CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Council Member Houlihan called the meeting to order at 11 :04 A.M. Self-introductions were
made.

AGENDA ITEM
1. HISTORICAL FESTIVAL PLANNING
Council Member Houlihan discussed with the group the ongoing plans for the City's 20th
anniversary historical festival. She indicated that there were two downtown street festivals that
the committee could have a booth or area to hold the historical festival.
The group agreed that they would need the assistance from many other organizations. The group
indicated that they would also find assistance from local residents if there were a way to get the
information to them. Mary Fran Riggs, Wendy Haskett and Maggie Houlihan agreed to attend
different community functions to advertise the event and seek assistance. Plans would be made
to attend the senior lunch at the community center and to contact individuals involved with the
Wavecrest/Rods & W oodies.
Some of the ideas for the festival that were suggested by the committee members included:

Historical tours
Logo/pin/poster/t-shirt souvenirs
Historic 5K Walk (as fundraiser where participants would pay a registration fee and would
receive aT-shirt)
Miniature mission bell replicas
Story telling booth/kiosk
Have local notables/dignitaries/historians give tours and talks
Surf culture connections (hold display at the Machado surf classic
Have a booth at the Oktoberfest
Create and sell CD slideshow
Community barn dance in October
The committee also agreed that they would need to find ways to get the school children involved
with art and photography exhibits, "reminiscing Encinitas" school plays, various performances.
Lastly, the committee indicated that they need to find someone to coordinate the volunteers and
the festival activities. Council Member Houlihan suggested that Stewart Reesor, Carol Ashworth
or Paula Kirpalani be contacted and asked to serve in this capacity.
2. SUBCOMMITTEES UPDATES
· Historv and Historical Preservation Resource Brochure:
Kenneth Hayward reported that the subcommittee was having difficulty III formatting the
brochure. They would continue with their efforts.
· Web site Database Subcommittee:
Blair Gibb reported that he presented the web site prototype to the Cultural Tourism Committee
on June 2, 2005.
· Event and Marketin!! Subcommittee:
Council Member Houlihan indicated that the subcommittee would work on advertising the 20th
anniversary historical festival.
