CALL TO ORDER- INTRODUCTIONS
Council Member Maggie Houlihan called the meeting to order at 8:41 A.M. Self-introductions
were made.

Sub-committee reports were given as follows:
The Historic Mission Bells Program
Keith Turner reported that the Encinitas Chamber anticipated delivering to the City the funds for
the installation of the remaining six bells for the EI Camino Real corridor.

Cultural Tours/Garden Tourism
. Garden Tour
Council Member Houlihan and Keith Turner reported that the garden tour would take place on
April 8, 2006. Tickets would go on sale in February. The committee members were looking at
fifty garden sites in the Leucadia area. The tour would be staged at Cottonwood Creek Park with
shuttles running to the various garden home sites. The garden tour telephone hotline is: 760-753-

. Encinitas Historical Tour
Council Member Houlihan reported that Lloyd O'Connell was working on the historical tour for the
20th anniversary celebration. The tour would take place in the spring of 2006. A map and t-shirt
would be included with the registration fee.
. Envision Encinitas (NEA Grant Project)
James Gilliam, Arts Administrator for the City, reported that the ad hoc committee had been
meeting weekly on the website and public relations campaign. The committee narrowed down the
website designers to three but they were still struggling with the selection of the design firm.
Additional information had been requested from the bidders.
. History Without Walls
Houlihan reported that the subcommittee was looking into the idea of using the California Digital
Library as. the host for a database shared by the Encinitas Historical Society and the San Dieguito
Heritage Museum. Additionally, a few of the members would be meeting to discuss a potential
grant opportunity.
Houlihan also reported that the group continued to work on the 20th Anniversary of the City's
incorporation. The calendar that was being created by Fred Caldwell should be available within the
next couple of weeks.
. Monitor the Development of the Leucadia 101 Streets cape Program
Paula Kirpalani reported that the Adopt a Median program was progressing. The medians were
close to being ready for planting. The association anticipated that the plantings would be installed
next month.
Ms. Kirpalani indicated that the Leucadia entrance sign would be installed in January 2006.
Lastly, Ms. Kirpalani announced that the Leucadia 101 Association was. promoting a holiday
celebration program - Light up Leucadia. The program offered local businesses incentives to
decorate their storefronts for the holiday season. Winners would be announced at the next Leucadia
101 Mainstreet Association meeting on December 21,2005.

. Enhancement Of The Visitors Center
Keith Turner reported that the Visitors Center committee found a new location in the
downtown Encinitas area; however, there was no timeline for moving.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Sherry Smoot, with the Encinitas Visitors Center, reported that the new Visitor's Guide would be
released soon. Fred Caldwell created the artwork for the cover. Ms. Smoot also announced that
the Chamber would be holding their Holiday Sundowner on December 13 from 5:30 to 7:30
P.M. at Quail Botanical Gardens. A toy drive would be held in conjunction with the event.
Paula Kirpalani reported that the Leucadia 101 Association's LeucadiArt event was scheduled for
April 23, 2006. Additionally, the Food for Thought event would take place in July 2006.
Paul Davis announced that he recently completed the Community Emergency Response Team
(CERT) training program. Houlihan suggested that he give a presentation on disaster
preparedness at one of the chamber's Third Thursday luncheon.
