MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: October 2,2002

1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m.
Present:
Vice Chairperson Briana Meyer, Kiara Porter, Dan Leeper, Ziggy
Longdon, Tom Joseph, Anthony Prieto, Shane Wilson and Hayley
Crickmore.
Also
Present:
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Support
Coordinator Dakovich.

Chairperson Summer Meyer
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
3. CHANGES TO THE AGENDA
A. Vice Chairperson Meyer suggested that Agenda Item 8A be moved to the
November Agenda.
IN CONSENSUS, THE COMMISSION AGREED TO ADDRESS AGENDA ITEM
8A AT THE NOVEMBER MEETING.
4. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of September 4, 2002.
COMMISSIONER JOSEPH MOVED AND COMMISSIONER LEEPER
SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 4, 2002
MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 8-0.

7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Status Report on Current Youth/Teen Activities (Teen Trips, Open Gym,
Open Mic, etc.)
Vice Chairperson Meyer reported on upcoming teen programs including Open
Mic, October 18 at the Community Center (September 20, 195 teens attended
Open Mic with 8 bands), Open Gym, and the upcoming Teen Trip to Knott's
Scary Farm, October 26. She also noted two ih_8th Grade Teen Trips to Solid
Rock and Iceoplex.
B. Status Report on Commissioner Subcommittees
Vice Chairperson Meyer made Subcommittee Chairperson and Vice Chairperson
appointments as follows:

Vice Chairperson Meyer asked for volunteers to help staff the Encinitas Day
Information Booth to answer questions regarding the Youth Commission.
Commissioners Joseph, Leeper and Wilson volunteered to participate.
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Discussion on Logo for Commission Banner and Shirts.
Vice Chairperson Meyer opened the meeting to comments from the Commission.

Comments included the need to keep design simple, keep ocean, beach, sunset
theme, use embroidery for logo rather than stamp, keep the word "Commission"
as part of the banner.
Commissioner Longdon volunteered to take the suggestions, use his computer to
work up a design and bring back to the November meeting.
IN CONSENSUS, THE COMMISSION AGREED TO HAVE COMMISSIONER
LONGDON WORK UP A DESIGN AND BRING TO THE NOVEMBER
MEETING.
9. GENERAL INFORMATION/STAFF STATUS REPORTS
None
10. . COMMISSIONERS CORNER
A. Commissioners
Commissioners Longdon and Prieto reported on the recent Volunteer Thank You
Dinner held at the Community Center; noting the food was good, they were glad
they attended and each CommissionerNolunteer received a binder with the City
logo.
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein distributed binders to those Commission
members who were unable to attend the dinner. She also distributed 2-1/2"
white binders to those who had requested larger binders for their Commission
information, and distributed event calendars.
B. Staff
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein asked if those attending the conference in
Long Beach tomorrow had any questions. She reminded the Commissioners to
wear appropriate dress, their name tags and be ready to depart from City Hall at
7:00 a.m.

The meeting adjourned at 5:12 p.m.
