SENIOR CITIZEN COMMISSION
MINUTES
Regular Meeting Date: May 25, 2007 1:00 p.m.
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Vance called the meeting to order at 1:05 p.m.
Present: Chairperson Vance, Commissioners Drielsma, Finch,
and Larson.
Also
Present: Recreation Superintendent Fazzio, Program Assistant Pfeil.
Absent: Vice Chairperson Harp, Commissioner Winfield
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
A. David Oakley and Virginia Herman presented all of the Commissioners with a book,
Winnie the WAC, a republishing of a World War II animated cartoon series.
B. Joanne Price addressed the Commission and gave a status report on 2 items on which
she was working: 1) Recreation Brochures were delivered to Meals on Wheels
participants and 2) Contact information on the local CERT was provided for future use.
4. CHANGES TO AGENDA
Presentation – Chairperson Vance presented an award to Jeanae Bosco for her donation
to the Out and About Program of $5000.00.
Chairperson Vance suggested that item 7C be moved to the June meeting.
5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of minutes for Regular Meeting April 27, 2007.
COMMISSIONER FINCH MOVED, COMMISSIONER DRIELSMA SECONDED TO
APPROVE MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING, April 27, 2007. MOTION CARRIED 4-
0.
6. PRESENTATIONS
A. Pat Carroll of High Country Villas
Mr. Carroll discussed the Disaster Preparedness program at High Country Villas
and discussed the importance of proper emergency planning. He also requested
from the Commission help in obtaining 2 defibrillators for the High Country Villas
Community. They have submitted their application for the Community Grant
Program.
B. Frank Iszak, Founder of Silver Age Yoga
Mr. Iszak discussed his program that provides free and/or low cost yoga instruction
specifically designed for Seniors. He also requested an endorsement from the
Commission for the Community Grant Program.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Status Report on Project C.A.R.E.
Superintendent Fazzio reviewed the Project C.A.R.E. statistical report for April.
B. Status Report on Senior Center.
Superintendent Fazzio provided information on several upcoming events including the
Senior Dance Luau, a Failing Vision Discussion, and Senior Breeze Sprees. Also, A
Project C.A.R.E volunteer is needed.
C. Update Report on Ad Hoc Sub-Committees. (Outreach Information,
Transportation Review, Senior Housing Review, Senior Disaster Preparedness
and Representative Reports), and Annual Sub-committee Appointments.
Chairperson Vance advised this item would be heard at the June meeting.
D. Discussion and Evaluation of the Senior Information Fair
Superintendent Fazzio stated that the Senior Information Fair was held on Thursday
May 10th. Early estimates show a 10% increase in attendance. Commissioner Finch
suggested increasing public awareness for next year’s event. Chairperson Vance
replied that this would be a good project for the Outreach subcommittee next year.

9. COMMISSIONER’S CORNER/ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. Commissioners
Commissioner Finch wanted to know the next step on responding to the request of the two
speakers regarding the Community Grant Program. Superintendent Fazzio will check on
the deadline for application submittal.
Commissioner Drielsma remarked on the Senior Smoke Alarm Program giving free smoke
alarms to seniors residing in San Diego County. He also asked if the Commissioners
could receive blank business cards to hand out.
B. Staff
Superintendent Fazzio announced the deadline for application for the new Senior Citizen
Commission position is May 30, 2007. The FY 2007/2008 Budget was approved. At the
June meeting, NCTD will give a presentation on the FAST program. Superintendent
Fazzio also reminded the Commission about the change in time for the next meeting.
