MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: October 4,2006

1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Acting Chairperson Prieto called the meeting to order at 4:34 pm.
Present:
Acting Chairperson Prieto, Commissioners Felzer, Vaccaro, Alcorn,
Ferreirae, Young, Novack, Stone, Campbell, Lee and Ogden.

4. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of September 6, 2006.
COMMISSIONER FERREl RAE MOVED, COMMISSIONER FELZER
SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 6, 2006
MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 11-0.
5. NEW BUSINESS
A. Review September Park and Beach Tour.
Acting Chairperson Prieto reviewed the staff report and requested that
Commissioners provide any comments on the tour.
Commissioners provided comments on the tour.
B. Status Report on Current YouthfTeen Activities (Teen Trips, Open Gym,
Open Mic, etc.).
Acting Chairperson Prieto distributed flyers on upcoming teen programs, ie Open
Mic - October 20, Open Gym October 7, October 21 and November 4 and the
teen trip to Knott's Scary Farm October 7.

6. NEW BUSINESS
A. Nomination and Election of Youth Commission Chairperson and Vice
Chairperson.
Acting Chairperson Prieto reviewed the staff report and opened the meeting to
nominations for Chairperson.
Commissioner Alcorn nominated Commissioner Vaccaro; Commissioner Prieto
nominated himself; Commissioner Ferreirae nominated herself. A written ballot
was taken and Commissioner Ferreirae was elected Chairperson.
Acting Chairperson Prieto opened the meeting to nominations for Vice
Chairperson.
Commissioner Vaccaro nominated herself; Commissioner Prieto nominated
himself and Commissioner Novack nominated himself. A written ballot was taken
and Commissioner Novack was elected Vice Chairperson.
Chairperson Ferreirae and Vice Chairperson Novack will begin their term at the
November, 2006 meeting.
Commissioner Felzer left the meeting at 5:00 p.m.
B. Review of Proposed Meetings Schedule, Including Guest Speakers and
Tours.
Acting Chairperson Prieto reviewed the staff report and opened the meeting for
discussion on Commission meeting schedule.
IN CONSENSUS (11-0) the Commission agreed to the following: meet in
December and go dark in January; schedule presentations from the Community
Resource Center, the Sheriff's Department, Historical Society, Downtown
Encinitas Mainstreet Association (DEMA), receive information on recycling and
the City library project and tours of City Hall and the Community and Senior
Center. (these suggestions will be researched and scheduled as available)
7. COMMISSIONERS CORNER
A. COMMISSIONERS:
Acting Chairperson Prieto suggested each Commission member introduce
themselves, note their grade, school and favorite activity.
Commissioner Prieto attends La Costa Canyon High School, is a Junior and likes
to snowboard. He advised La Costa Canyon High School Homecoming Dance
will be held October 28.

Commissioner Alcorn attends La Costa Canyon High School, is a Senior and
likes to play field hockey. She noted La Costa Canyon High School will hold
Homecoming Parade and Carnival October 27.
Commissioner Vaccaro attends San Dieguito Academy, is a Senior and likes to
play soccer. She attended the Picnic in the Park, the City's 20 birthday party and
worked at the cotton candy machine.
Commissioner Stone attends Oakcrest Middle School, is in 8th grade and likes to
play basketball. She attended the recent Sister City dinner and treaty signing.
She suggested that community events be promoted at the local schools.
Commissioner Ferreirae attends San Dieguito Academy, is in 10th grade and
likes to play soccer. She attended the recent Sister City dinner and treaty
signing and the Picnic in the Park, worked at the cotton candy and beverage
booth.
Commissioner Novack attends San Dieguito Academy, is in 9th grade and likes to
play soccer.
Commissioner Young attends Diegueno Middle School, is in 8th grade and likes
to surf. He noted that providing teen program flyers to the schools was great.
Commissioner Ogden attends La Costa Canyon High School, is in 9th grade and
likes to play volleyball. She will attend the upcoming Commissioner Appreciation
Dinner.
Commissioner Campbell attends Diegueno Middle School, is in 8th grade and is a
cheer leader. She will attend the Commissioner Appreciation Dinner.
Commissioner Lee attends La Costa Canyon High School, is a Junior and is a
publicist for the American Heart Association. She advised sodas have been
removed from vending machines at La Costa Canyon High School and restocked
with healthier drinks.
B. STAFF
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein distributed invitations to the upcoming
Commissioner Appreciation Dinner, a flyer requesting assistance with the
November elections and the Commission address list, requesting that each
Commissioner check list for accuracy and add their e-mail address.
8. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 5:28 p.m.
