MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: June 7, 2006

1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Berry-Blum called the meeting to order at 4:35 pm.
Present:
Chairperson Berry-Blum, Vice Chairperson Prieto, Commissioners
Felzer, Ogden, Vaccaro, Alcorn, Canchola and Ferreirae.

Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Coordinator

Commissioners Lee and Micelli.

5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of May 3, 2006.
COMMISSIONER FERREl RAE MOVED, COMMISSIONER FELZER
SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE MAY 3, 2006 MEETING.
MOTION CARRIED 8-0.
6. PRESENTATIONS
A. Recognition of Outgoing Youth Commission Members.
Vice Chairperson Prieto reviewed the staff report and noted that Chairperson
Berry-Blum and Commissioner Canchola are graduating seniors and could not
reapply to the Commission.
He thanked the two Commission members, Chairperson Berry-Blum and
Commissioner Canchola, for a job well done and presented them with a
Certificate of Appreciation.

7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Status Report on Current Youthrreen Activities (Teen Trips, Open Gym,
Open MIC, etc.).
Chairperson Berry-Blum distributed flyers for upcoming Teen Trips - Six Flags
Magic Mountain on July 12 and Universal Studios August 9. She also noted that
Open Gym would be held June 17, July 15, August 5 and 19; Open Mic will be
held July 21 and August 18 and distributed flyers on teen activities that include
Summer Golf Clinics, Summer Dance Parties and Jr. High Baby-sitter Training.
She encouraged Commissioners to promote teen activities.
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Review of Park Tour and Summer Meeting Options.
Chairperson Berry-Blum reviewed the staff report and asked for discussion to
determine the Commission meeting schedule for the months of July and August.
IN CONSENSUS, THE YOUTH COMMISSION AGREED TO NOT MEET (GO
DARK), DURING THE MONTHS OF JULY AND AUGUST. (8-0).
Chairperson Berry-Blum asked for discussion on the. possibility of having a park
tour/dinner in conjunction with the September Commission meeting.
IN CONSENSUS, THE YOUTH COMMISSION AGREED TO A PARK
TOUR/DINNER AS PART OF THEIR SEPTEMBER MEETING. (8-0).
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein noted that all newly appointed Commissioners
would participate in the park tour/dinner and suggested, space permitting, that
past members attend the tour/dinner as well.
9. COMMISSIONERS CORNER
A. Commissioners
Commissioners Ferreirae, Fetzer and Vaccaro spoke before City Council as part
of the Youth Commission appointment process.
Commissioner Canchola noted San Dieguito Academy will be presenting
Thespian Awards, Academy Awards and Senior Awards, as part of the end of
school program.
Commissioner Alcorn advised the La Costa Canyon prom held at Sea World was
great.
Vice Chairperson Prieto advised La Costa Canyon graduation will be held June
16. .

Chairperson Berry-Blum noted the recent San Dieguito Academy prom was held
at the San Diego Zoo. .
B. Staff
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein distributed information on the need for poll
workers for the upcoming November National election. She also advised that
Youth Commission elections for Chairperson and Vice Chairperson will be held in
October.

The meeting adjourned at 4:50 p.m.
