MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: March 1, 2006

1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Berry-Blum called the meeting to order at 4:35 pm.
Present:
Chairperson Berry-Blum, Commissioners Felzer, Ogden, Vaccaro,
Alcorn, Lee, Ferreirae and Canchola.

Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein and Administrative Coordinator

Absent:
Vice Chairperson Prieto and Commissioner Micelli.

5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of February 1, 2006.
COMMISSIONER FEllER MOVED, COMMISSIONER CANCHOLA
SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 1, 2006
MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 6-0. (THOSE ABSENT LAST MEETING DID
NOT VOTE).
6. PRESENTATIONS
A. Community Resource Center - Jen Shtab
Chairperson Berry-Blum welcomed Jen Shtab, Community Resource Center, to
the meeting.
Jen Shtab thanked the Commission for the opportunity to present information on
teen relationships. She also reviewed the services offered at the Community
Resource Center for all ages and noted the other topics she addresses, such as

Gangs, Communication Skills, Bullying and Cliques. She distributed a brochure
on the topic "Relationships - Good and Bad."
The Commission thanked her for the presentation.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Status Report on Current Youthffeen Activities (Teen Trips, Open Gym,
Open MIC, etc.). .
Chairperson Berry-Blum noted that Open Gym would be held March 4 and 18
and Open Mic would be held March 17. She also distributed flyers on these
programs.
B. Commission Subcommittee Reports.
No Subcommittee meetings were held in February.
8. NEW BUSINESS
None
9. COMMISSIONERS CORNER
A. Commissioners
Commissioner Alcorn advised the La Costa Canyon High School Boys Basketball
Team would be participating in CIF finals at UCSD on Saturday, March 4.
Commissioner Canchola noted the upcoming Air Band and Talent Show at San
Dieguito Academy and the Surf Team traveling to Tonga in the Spring.
B. Staff
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein noted the upcoming Youth Summit, Saturday,
May 13 in Oceanside and encouraged Commission members to attend. She will
provide additional information after the Youth Summit planning meeting next
week.
She noted the 12th Annual Teen EXPO would be held at San Dieguito Academy
on March 29 and the La Costa Canyon High School 5th Annual Teen EXPO
would be held April 18, from 11 :35-12:35 p.m. She further advised that the
Intergenerational Recital would be held on June 3 at the Community Center and
noted, that in the past, the Youth Commission Chairperson and Vice Chairperson
had emceed the event. She also invited Commission members to attend.
