MEETING MINUTES
MEETING DATE: January 4, 2006
4:30 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Berry-Blum called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm.

Felzer, Ferreirae, Ogden, Vaccaro, Alcorn, Lee, Micelli and

5. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF THE CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approval of Minutes for Meeting of November 2,2005
COMMISSIONER FELZER MOVED, COMMISSIONER FERREl RAE
SECONDED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 2, 2005
MEETING. MOTION CARRIED 9-0.
6. PRESENTATIONS
A. Encinitas Fire Department Disaster Preparedness - Captain James Kelly
Captain Kelly was unable to present information on disaster preparedness today,
however, he will be available for the February 2006 meeting.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Status Report on Current YouthfTeen Activities (Teen Trips, Open Gym,
Open MIC, etc.).
Chairperson Berry-Blum noted that Open Gym would be held January 7 and
January 21 and Open Mic would be held January 20. She also noted upcoming
Teen Trips to Mountain High on January 26 and Disneyland on February 17, and

encouraged Commissioners to attend the trips. She also distributed flyers for the
upcoming middle school programs - After School Xtras.
B. Commission Subcommittee Reports.
No Subcommittee meetings were held during the months of November and
December.
8. NEW BUSINESS
None
9. COMMISSIONERS CORNER
A. Commissioners
Chairperson Berry-Blum advised that the San Dieguito Academy Winter Formal
would be held January 14.
Vice Chairperson Prieto noted the La Costa Canyon High School Winter Formal
would be held in February.
Commissioner Canchola noted an upcoming movie "Invisible Children" to be
shown at La Paloma Theater (late January) as a fund raiser for mistreated
children in Africa. She advised posters and additional information regarding date
and time would be available soon.
Chairperson Berry-Blum noted her participation, as an entry judge, in the recent
Cityas Parade and asked Commissioners to share their experiences.
Vice Chairperson Prieto advised he also participated as an entry judge and
enjoyed the event.
Commissoner Canchola noted that she participated in the parade as a Santa's
helper with Commissioners Alcorn, Vaccaro and Ferreirae. She advised that
everyone had a great time.
Commissioner Alcorn advised La Costa Canyon High School was holding a
Charity Jam Basketball Event on January 9 at 6:30 PM to raise money for the
Special Olympics.
B. Staff
Recreation Supervisor Rubenstein distributed the current Community Calendar
and requested the Marketing Subcommittee remain after the meeting to discuss
promotion ideas for the Teen Trips. She further noted that the Community
Resource Center and Encinitas Fire Department "s Captain Kelly would be
making presentations at the February meeting schedules permitting.
