CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chairperson Vance called the meeting to order at 1 :02 p.m.
Present:
Chairperson Vance, Vice Chairperson King, Commissioners
Harp, Tillitson, Drielsma, and Larson.

Recreation Superintendent Chana Miller, Program Assistant Pfeil.
Absent:
Commissioner Schorr.

A. Approval of minutes for Regular Meeting April 28, 2006.
COMMISSIONER HARP MOVED, VICE CHAIRPERSON KING SECONDED TO
APPROVE MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING, APRIL 28, 2006. MOTION CARRIED

6. PRESENTATIONS
A. Richard Kepler of the San Diego Sheriffs Department gave a presentation on
crime prevention and provided several brochures outlining current scams against
seniors and tips to prevent them.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Status Report on Project C.A.R.E.

Recreation Superintendent Chana Miller reviewed the Project C.A.R.E. statistical report
for April.

Status Report on Senior Center at Oakcrest Park.
Recreation Superintendent Chana Miller announced that the upcoming Spaghetti Dinner
will be held at the Community Center Banquet Hall Monday, August 21st 5:30pm. The
Senior Commissioners are usually celebrity servers at this event. The senior center
staff will be having cookbooks printed up and have requested area seniors to submit
recipes. The cookbook sales will be a fund raiser for Senior Center Programs. A Living
Will presentationlreview will be held on Wednesday May 31st from 10:30 -2:30 pm by
appointment. The Annuallntergenerational Performing Arts Recital will be held on June
3m in the Banquet Hall.
C. Update Report on Ad Hoc Sub-Committees. (Outreach Information,
Transportation Review, Senior Housing Review, Senior Disaster Preparedness
and Representative Reports)
Outreach - No Report
Transportation - Recreation Superintendent Chana Miller stated that she had not
heard anything more from NCTD regarding senior transportation issues.
Senior Housing - Chairperson Vance spoke of his discussion with Pastor Bill Harmon
revaluating needs for senior housing.
Senior Disaster Preparedness - No Report.
Council Contact - No Report.
Encinitas Senior Foundation Review - Commissioner Harp stated that Senior Center
Manager Goodsell attended the last meeting to discuss a possible donation to the Out
and About Program. The Senior Center Living Room is 90% complete with just lamps,
artwork, etc. to be added.
A.I.S. Review - Recreation Superintendent Chana Miller provided a copy of the latest
A.I.S. meeting minutes.
The annual appointments to the subcommittees are as follows:
Outreach - Commissioner Harp and Commissioner Tillotson
Transportation - Vice Chairperson King and Commissioner Schorr
Senior Housing - Chairperson Vance and Commissioner Larson
Senior Disaster Preparedness - Commissioner Drielsma and Commissioner Schorr
D. Status Report on the Senior Information Fair

The Commissioners commented on the success of the Senior Information Fair held on
May 11 tho Recreation Superintendent Chana Miller stated that she received good
comments and that the vendors seemed pleased with the outcome. Early reports show
that the attendance was comparable to last year's event.

9. COMMISSIONER'S CORNER/ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. Commissioners
Chairperson Vance commented on Recreation Superintendent Chana Miller's
resignation and thanked her for her hard work and her many years of service on the
Commission.
Vice Chairperson King presented Recreation Superintendent Chana Miller with an
orchid plant and a card signed by current and past Commission members.
Commissioner Tillotson commented on the Prayer Breakfast that she attended.
Commissioner Harp also commented on Recreation Superintendent Chana Miller's
l resignation and that he enjoyed her energy and enthusiasm.
B. Staff
Recreation Superintendent Chana Miller thanked the Commission and shared how
much she enjoyed working with the Commissioners over the years. She expressed her
appreciation for their hard work and wished them luck in their future endeavors.
10. ADJOURNMENT
A. The meeting adjourned at 1 :51 p.m.
