Dear Mr. Addison,
In response to your request, we have observed the grading operation
and performed field density tests for the proposed duplex
condominium on the above referenced property. The results of our
density testing and laboratory testing are presented in this
report.
Based on the results of our testing, it is our opinion that the
fill was placed in an adequate manner and compacted to a minimum of
90 percent of the laboratory maximum dry density.
If you have any questions, please contact us at 760.753.9940.
This opportunity to be of service is appreciated.

INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of our observations and field
densi ty testing of the grading proj ect for the proposed duplex
condominium. The project consisted of cutting and filling of the
westerly facing natural slope in order to create split level
building pads while removing approximately 2 feet of loose
surficial soil and re-compacting east of the garage area.
Compaction tests were taken in pad areas and retaining wall
backfill. Results of our density testing are presented on Table 1.
LABORATORY TEST DATA
The laboratory standard for determining the maximum dry density was
performed in accordance with ASTM D 1557-92. Field density tests
were performed in accordance with ASTM D 1556. The results of the
laboratory maximum dry density, for the soil used as compacted fill
on the site, is summarized below:
Description
Maximum Dry Density
(p.c. f.)
125.2
Optimum
Moisture (%)
Brown silty sand
10.5
EXPANSIVE SOILS
Pad grade soils have an expansion potential in the low range.

were performed on the site:
1. The south property line was shored with steel H beams inserted
in a drilled hole and back filled with 3000 lb. concert below
the garage floor elevation and a slurry mix to grade.
2. The garage area was excavated to grade and the second and third
levels prepared by removing and re-compacting approximately
2 feet of surface soil and creating level building pads.
3. Retaining walls were backfilled with crushed rock and native
soil
4. Fill soil was placed in lifts of approximately 6.0 to 8.0 inches
thick.
5. The soil was moistened as required to achieve optimum moisture
content, and compacted with track mounted earth moving
equipment.
6. The fill was placed to a minimum of 90 percent of the maximum
dry density, as indicated by our test results.
INSPECTIONS
All structural footings excavations were probed with a steel probe
and approved by this firm.
