D. CLOSING AND ADOPTION OF CONSENT CALENDAR
1. Approval of Minutes: Regular Meeting of 7-8-93.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Adopt the Consent Calendar
Approving the Minutes of July 8, 1993.
Motion: Board Member Eldon - To adopt the consent calendar
as submitted.

2. Design Review to allow exterior modifications to an
. existing motel structure. Changes to include new
decorati ve canopy structure at the entrance, and addition
of "signature tower". CASE NUMBER: 93-125 DR;
APPLICANT: Holiday Express/Taki Sun; LOCATION: 607
Leucadia Blvd.; ENVIRONMENTAL STATUS: Exempt per
Section 15301 (e) of CEQA. Staff Contact: Jim Kennedy
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Review the proposed project,
receive public testimony, discuss the design issues
relating to the project, and continue the application to
the meeting of September 9,1993 in order to provide time
for a public notice for a variance.
Motion: Board Member Fahlberg - To approve Case No. 93-125
DR as submitted and subsequently revised - avoiding the need
for a variance.

3. Variance request to allow an existing game room to be
. converted into an accessory unit that encroaches 5' into
the required 10' sideyard setback and 3' into the
required 25' rearyard setback for a total setback of 5'
from the side and 22' from the rear. A variance from the
Accessory Unit Regulations is required since the proposed
unit exceeds the maximum permitted size by 135 sq. ft.
CASE NUMBER: 93-117 V; APPLICANT: Carol Hurd;
LOCATION: 458 E. Glaucus Street; ENVIRONMENTAL STATUS:
Exempt per CEQA, Section 15301 (e-1). Staff Contact: Jim
Kennedy.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Review the proposed project,
receive public testimony, and adopt the attached
resolution denying the variance request.
Motion: Board Member Hughes - To deny the Variance request
for Case No. 93-117 V as submitted.

4. Variance request to allow a portion of an existing
. detached garage to be converted into a 300 sq ft
accessory unit which encroaches 6.5 ft into the required
10 ft side yard setback and 10.7 ft into the required 25
ft rear yard setback for a total setback of 3.5 ft from

the side and 14.3 ft from the rear. The applicant is
also proposing to construct a 300 sq ft addition to the
garage which would also encroach 6.5 ft into the required
. 10 ft side yard setback for a total setback of 3.5 ft.

Morris; LOCATION: 1730 Wilstone Avenue; ENVIRONMENTAL
STATUS: Exempt per CEQA, Section 15301 ( e-1). Staff
Contact: Chris Durand.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Review the proposed project,
receive public testimony, and direct staff as to further
action on the project.
Motion: Board Member Eldon - To direct staff to return with
a Resolution of approval for the Variance request for Case No.
93-122 V.

Planning Technician Durand reviewed recent City Council and
Planning Commission actions with the Board.
J. BUSINESS
Report on Mayor/Chair Meeting was requested to be placed on
the September 9, 1993 meeting agenda.
K. ADJOURNMENT
Meeting to be adjourned to the next regularly scheduled
meeting to be held Thursday, September 9, 1993.
Motion: Board Member Buck - To adjourn the meeting at 8:30
P.M. to the next regularly scheduled meeting of this Community
Advisory Board to be held September 9, 1993.
