AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ENCINITAS, CALIFORNIA,
ESTABLISHING VEHICLE LENGTH AND WIDTH LIMITS ON SOUTH COAST
HIGHWAY 101 (ADJACENT TO CARDIFF STATE BEACH), MOONLIGHT BEACH,
SWAMI'S BEACH, GRANDVIEW BEACH, AND BEACON'S BEACH PARKING LOTS
BETWEEN FRIDAY BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY
THROUGH LABOR DAY
WHEREAS, beach parking is a valuable resource for both residents and visitors that is in
high demand during the summer months;
WHEREAS, oversized vehicles impact the availability of parking spaces by utilizing
multiple spaces and use of amenities (slide -outs, chairs, etc.) that encroach into adjacent
sidewalks, bike paths, or other parking spaces;
WHEREAS, oversized vehicles have repeatedly been observed on South Coast
Highway 101, adjacent to Cardiff State Beach, Swami's Beach, Grandview Beach, Beacon's
Beach and the Moonlight Beach Parking Lots; and
WHEREAS, the City seeks to address this issue by limiting the length and width of
vehicles during the peak summer months on South Coast Highway 101 adjacent to Cardiff State
Beach, Moonlight Beach, Swami's Beach, Grandview Beach, and Beacon's Beach Parking Lots.
NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Encinitas, California, does ordain as
follows:
SECTION ONE:
Municipal Code Section 14.40.145 Parking of Recreational Vehicles shall be amended to
include the following section:
D. Vehicles (sinaular or in combination) over 25 feet in lenath or 9 feet wide are
prohibited on South Coast Highway 101 (adjacent to Cardiff State Beach),
Moonlight Beach, Swami's Beach, Grandview Beach, and Beacon's Beach
Parking Lots during peak season (between the Friday before Memorial Day
through Labor Dav). Tailgating is prohibited. No awnings, slide -outs, chairs,
tables, barbeques, or other recreational equipment may be used that encroach
into adjacent sidewalks, bike paths or other parking areas.
SECTION TWO:
This Ordinance was introduced on September 11, 2019.
SECTION THREE:
The City Clerk is directed to prepare and have published a summary of this Ordinance together
with the votes cast no less than five days prior to the consideration of its adoption and again
within 15 days following adoption, indicating the votes cast.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 25th day of September, 2019, by the following vote, to
wit:
