1972-15-Resolution on Opposition to Proposition 9 (Pollution Initiative )
I
RESOLUTION NO. R72-15
RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO PROPOSITION 9 (POLllITION
INITIATIVE)
WHEREAS, most, if not all, organizations and agencies (including the
California Water Resources Association, the Irrigation Districts Association
of California, and The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California)
which are responsible for collecting and delivering water to the people of
our great State have expressed formal opposition to Proposition 9 on the State
Primary Ballot, June 6, 1972; and
WHEREAS, said Proposi tien is claimed to assist in the extensive efforts
now being made at alL levels of government to remove from our environment
pollution of all kinds, but in fact, it will frustrate and deter the con-
structive programs of cooperation now proceeding to eliminate the harmful
effects of pollution; and
WHEREAS, it would also dangerously hamper the ability of responsible
agencies, private and public, to continue providing water, power and
transportation to meet the current and increasing needs and demands of our
people; and
WHEREAS, all imported water delivered requires the use of huge amounts
of electric power to pump and boost said water many hundreds of feet in
elevation and hundreds of miles in distance, this Board believes that adoption
of Proposition 9 (Pollution Initiative) would be contrary to the interests of
all people to whom it has responsibility to provide imported water;
NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Directors of the San Dieguito Irrigation
District hereby records the unanimous vote of all its Directors in opposition
to Proposition 9 and strongly urges all who believe that we must continually
seek to improve our environment by carefully studied and developed plans to
vote "no" on Proposition 9 on June 6, 1972.
Passed and adopted by the following roll call vote:
Ayes: Directors Wilson, Dean, Noonan, Pearson and Cermak.
Noes: None.
Absent: None.
